Stony

StonyStony is a 9-year old Labrador mix who had a mass in his right hip that was found to be a form of cancer called chondrosarcoma.

The recommended procedure was to amputate the leg followed by a course of chemo treatment. Stony’s owner is a cancer patient herself. She’s been fighting her own battle for five years and has survived past initial expectations and defied her prognosis. Still continuing treatments for her own serious illness, she has been unable to work. She says Stony has been an important force in helping her through her own cancer treatments, and she wanted to do the same for him. To do so she was willing to default on her mortgage and risk her home going into foreclosure.

The Pie Fund paid for Stony’s surgery, and it went well. In fact, the staff had a hard time keeping him off his paws at the clinic; he kept unlocking his cage and jumping in the air on his three legs!  Stony is now home and adjusting well to the surgery and treatments. He’s chasing birds in the back yard and is thoroughly enjoying life.
